THIS IS KALAB. He was born and raised in McMinnville, graduating from Mac Hi in 2008, and calls his culinary career “destiny.” Kalab fell in love with cooking from his first day at Grain Station Brewing then Carlton Corners, La Rambla, Gem and now as line cook and prep cook at Community Plate. He loves to make kraut at CP and has a knack for fermented foods, boasting that he can conjure up a “badass” kim chi.
Kalab himself is a bit of a “badass” as a great lover of the outdoors. He’d rather be rock climbing than just about anywhere and will drop everything for a long hike or to spend the day in a kayak. We think this communing with nature is what makes our gregarious Kalab a true charmer… he can talk to anyone and makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the room when he does. It’s a rare talent.
KALAB HAS THIS TO SAY ABOUT COMMUNITY PLATE:
“We really operate like a family here… each of us brings our own skill set to the team and we recognize each other’s strengths.”
